Key Exam Rules

  • Mode: pen-and-paper test with multiple-choice questions, answered on an OMR sheet. Rough work is done in the test booklet.

  • Negative marking: recent AISSEE papers have had no negative marking, so students should attempt every question.

  • Mathematics carries the most weight: half the marks in both classes (150 of 300 in Class 6, 200 of 400 in Class 9), and it is the first tie-breaker. See qualifying marks and tie-breaking.

  • Physical test: AISSEE has no physical fitness test. After counselling, selected candidates must pass a medical examination at the school before admission.

Medium of the Question Paper

  • Class 6: candidates choose one medium in the application form: English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, Assamese, Punjabi or Urdu, as listed in recent bulletins.

  • Class 9: English only.

  • English and Hindi medium candidates get a bilingual (English and Hindi) booklet. Regional-language candidates get the paper in their chosen language along with English.

  • If translations differ, the English version is final (except for the language section).

  • The medium cannot be changed after submitting the form, and admission eligibility does not depend on the medium chosen.

Telugu-medium students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana can write the Class 6 paper in Telugu. Because the English version is printed alongside, practise reading questions in both languages.

AISSEE Class 9 Syllabus

The Class 9 paper is based on the Class 8 level of the CBSE/NCERT curriculum. Mathematics covers topics such as rational numbers, linear equations, squares and square roots, cubes, exponents, algebraic expressions, mensuration, data handling and comparing quantities. General Science and Social Science follow Class 8 NCERT topics. The detailed topic list is in the appendix of the AISSEE Information Bulletin.

How to Use the Pattern in Preparation

  • Give maths the most time: it carries half the marks. Practise speed and accuracy on high-frequency topics such as fractions, LCM and HCF, percentage, profit and loss, area and perimeter, and speed-time-distance.

  • Plan the 150 minutes: a common approach for Class 6 is about 75 minutes for maths, 25 for intelligence, and 20 each for language and GK, leaving 10 minutes to check the OMR sheet.

  • Practise on OMR sheets: full-length timed mock tests on real OMR sheets reduce bubbling mistakes on exam day.

  • Attempt everything: with no negative marking in recent cycles, never leave a question blank.
