Sainik School options for Hyderabad students
Telangana has no Ministry of Defence Sainik School of its own, and none of the new partnership Sainik Schools approved so far is in Telangana. Telangana children can still write AISSEE and compete for the other-state seats (about one-third of seats in every Sainik School), most often at Korukonda and Kalikiri in Andhra Pradesh. Competition for these seats is high, so the cut-off for Telangana children is usually tougher than for home-state candidates. Note: the state-run TS social welfare military/Sainik-type schools have a separate admission process and are not filled through AISSEE.
Hyderabad has been an AISSEE exam city in recent years, so most children can write the exam without leaving the city. The final list is in the NTA bulletin each year. Full details: AISSEE guide, syllabus and Sainik School fees.
Navodaya (JNVST) for Hyderabad: which JNV?
JNVST is open only to children studying Class 5 in a district that has a JNV, and they apply to the JNV of that district. The long-running JNV near Hyderabad is JNV Ranga Reddy at Gopanapally (Serilingampally mandal, near the University of Hyderabad). A JNV for Medchal-Malkajgiri was sanctioned in December 2024. The JNVST 2027 prospectus lists 15 functional JNVs in Telangana: the nine long-running ones plus newer JNVs sanctioned in December 2024 for districts including Jagtial, Nizamabad, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Mahbubnagar, Sangareddy and Suryapet. A child must apply to the JNV of the district where he or she studies Class 5, so confirm your district’s JNV on navodaya.gov.in.
District | Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (location) |
|---|---|
Ranga Reddy | Gopanapally Village, Serilingampally Mandal |
Medchal-Malkajgiri | New JNV (sanctioned December 2024) |
Sangareddy | New JNV (sanctioned December 2024) |
Hyderabad | Check navodaya.gov.in for the JNV that covers your school |
JNVST is held on 28 November 2026. Read the JNVST 2027 complete guide and the JNVST admit card and exam day rules.
RMS and RIMC for Hyderabad children
There is no Rashtriya Military School in Telangana. The nearest are RMS Bengaluru and RMS Belagavi in Karnataka. Children are allotted a school after the written test, medical and interview. The written test (RMS CET) is on 13 December 2026: see the RMS guide and RMS CET admit card page. For RIMC Dehradun, seats are allotted state-wise and the written exam is on 6 December 2026: see the RIMC guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Hyderabad student get a Sainik School seat?
Yes. Telangana children write AISSEE and compete for the other-state seats in any Sainik School, most commonly Korukonda and Kalikiri in Andhra Pradesh. Because there are fewer such seats, aim for a high score, especially in Mathematics.
My child studies in Hyderabad city. Which JNV can he apply to?
The JNV depends on the district where your child studies Class 5, not where you live. Check the district list in the JNVST 2027 prospectus on navodaya.gov.in before applying.
Do you have a coaching centre in Hyderabad?
No. Enunciate Academy coaches only online, so students from Hyderabad join live classes and tests from home. This saves daily travel time and lets children practise more.
How do I join?
