The Indian Military Academy Direct Entry (IMA) through the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) offers a pathway for young graduates to join the Indian Army as commissioned officers. Vacancies Per Course

The IMA Direct Entry scheme offers 200 vacancies per course. Two courses are conducted annually.


Notification and Application

The notification for IMA Direct Entry is published in Employment News and leading daily newspapers, typically in July and November. The examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) under the aegis of the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE).

Eligible candidates must apply online through the UPSC official website during the application periods specified in the notification (July and November).


Eligibility Criteria

Age

Candidates must be aged between 19 and 24 years.

Qualification

  • A graduate degree from a recognized university is mandatory.

Marital Status

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply.


Selection Process

  1. Written Examination: Conducted by UPSC, the CDSE assesses candidates on English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics.
  2. Services Selection Board (SSB): Shortlisted candidates undergo rigorous SSB interviews, including psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews.

SSB Schedule

  • For the January Course: SSB interviews are conducted in August/September.
  • For the July Course: SSB interviews are conducted in February/March.

Training takes place at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, a world-renowned institution for officer training.
